Faselei!

Genre: Tactical Role-Playing
Developer: Sacnoth
Publisher: SNK
Year: 1999 (Japan), 2000 (UK)
Platform: Neo Geo Pocket Color

Faselei! is a tactical role-playing game released for the Neo Geo Pocket Color in late 1999 in Japan and in 2000 in the United Kingdom. It was developed by Sacnoth and published by SNK, and is notable for being Sacnoth’s final work for the Neo Geo Pocket Color, as well as their last under SNK.

Players assume the role of Shotaro Kurosawa, a mech pilot belonging to the mercenary group Faselei, navigating a civil war between two factions in a fictional Middle Eastern nation. Gameplay centers on mech combat using customizable units called TS (Toy Soldiers), where commands are issued via action-point-limited chips. These commands are executed in real-time once selected, blending strategic planning with immediate execution.

The game was technically impressive for its platform. It was among the last titles released before SNK’s exit from the handheld market and featured digitized lyrics in its opening theme. It includes a multiplayer versus mode via link cable, allowing players to battle each other’s mechs and exchange rewards. Graphically, it employs an isometric sci-fi art style with detailed anime-inspired visuals and mecha designs.

Critically, Faselei! earned high praise, with a 91% critic score based on multiple reviews. It has been consistently ranked among the Neo Geo Pocket Color’s best titles in retrospective lists and has gained a strong reputation among collectors—its limited release, especially in the West, contributes to its rarity and desirability.
