SSX 3 is the third installment in the snowboarding series developed by EA Sports BIG. The game introduced a connected mountain structure, allowing players to start from the peak and ride seamlessly down to the base, encountering a variety of events, challenges, and terrain changes along the way. The courses range from wide open slopes to narrow chutes and hazardous cliff sections.
Gameplay combines high-speed racing with elaborate tricks, with players filling a boost meter by performing jumps and combos. A major addition is the “Uber Tricks” system, featuring highly stylized moves that grant significant boosts when executed successfully.
The GameCube version was released in North America on October 20, 2003, in Europe on October 31, 2003, and in Japan on December 12, 2003. It received high critical acclaim and is often regarded as one of the best snowboarding games of its time. Due to the GameCube controller layout, however, one grab button found in other versions was omitted, slightly affecting certain trick combinations.
