Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc on the N-Gage is a 2D platformer adaptation of the popular Rayman 3 game originally released on consoles. Developed by Gameloft and published by Ubisoft, the game follows Rayman as he attempts to stop André, an evil Black Lum who has corrupted Rayman’s friend Globox. The plot centers on Rayman’s quest to cleanse Globox and thwart the Hoodlums, who intend to take over the world by spreading chaos and corruption.
The gameplay involves traditional side-scrolling platform mechanics where players control Rayman through various levels, overcoming obstacles and enemies. Rayman gains access to temporary power-ups such as Heavy Metal Fist, Lockjaw, Shock Rocket, and Throttle Copter, enhancing combat and traversal abilities. The game also includes an arcade-style scoring system rewarding players for combos and points earned during gameplay, which unlock hidden content and bonus levels.
Rayman 3 on N-Gage features a selection of over 50 maps across eight different worlds, combining colorful, comic-book-style visuals with fluid animations that bring the environment to life. The game also includes a unique multiplayer mode via Bluetooth, including Capture the Flag gameplay for up to four players, adding replay value through competitive gameplay.
Critically, the game was well received for its impressive graphics and faithful adaptation of the Rayman formula on a portable device. While some noted the levels could feel occasionally empty, the smooth controls, variety of power-ups, and multiplayer features were praised. It was awarded by GameSpy as one of the best N-Gage games of 2003 alongside other notable titles, underscoring its positive standing within the N-Gage library.
