City of Villains: Collector’s DVD Edition is a special Collector’s Edition boxed release of the City of Villains expansion for the MMORPG City of Heroes. Developed by Paragon Studios and published by NCsoft, it was released in 2005 as a standalone retail package that included both the game and multiple physical and digital bonuses.
The physical package contains an installation DVD including content up to Issue 6, seven exclusive HeroClix figures (including the edition-exclusive Lord Recluse), an art collection book titled From Both Sides of the Law, a preview deck for the City of Heroes collectible card game, an exclusive collector card, and a two-sided poster featuring a battle scene between Heroes and Villains and a map of the Rogue Isles. It also includes a serial code that grants game access and a complimentary trial period.
Digital in-game bonuses enhance the player experience by providing unique cosmetic items. These include Arachnos-themed chest and cape symbols, as well as a special costume icon. These virtual items were intended to highlight the Collector’s Edition status and provide a sense of prestige to early adopters.
