Clue Chronicles: Fatal Illusion (known in some regions as Cluedo Chronicles: Fatal Illusion) is a mystery adventure game developed by EAI Interactive and released by Hasbro Interactive in 1999 for Microsoft Windows. It represents a departure from the traditional board game-style adaptation of Clue, presenting an original narrative set in a richer, more cinematic format.
The game features a first-person point-and-click interface, placing the player in the role of a private investigator invited to a New Year’s Eve gathering aboard the eccentric Ian Masque’s yacht. Tragedy strikes when the host is found dead, and players must interrogate guests, collect clues, manage an inventory and notebook, and solve puzzles to unravel the mystery. The narrative unfolds across multiple locations, including the yacht, a cable car, and a castle.
As the inaugural entry in what was intended to be the Clue Chronicles trilogy, the game does not adhere to the board game’s familiar deduction mechanics but instead focuses on interactive storytelling and environmental exploration. Its design favors atmospheric tension and puzzle-solving, aiming to evoke suspense more akin to a detective adventure than a traditional board game.
