Death Rally is a top-down vehicular combat racing game developed by Remedy Entertainment and originally released as shareware in 1996. The game was published by Apogee Software in its early distribution and later saw a retail release through GT Interactive. It was one of Remedy’s earliest titles, later celebrated as a cult classic in the subgenre.

Players start with a basic car nicknamed the Vagabond and $495, participating in deadly street races to earn money and reputation. Races take place across multiple tracks with escalating difficulty. Money is used to repair, upgrade, or purchase cars, and to acquire weapons. A key feature is the underground market, where players can buy mines, rocket fuel, sabotage, or defensive upgrades. Completing objectives like wiping out opponents or winning undamaged earns bonus rewards.

The gameplay is fast-paced and aggressive, combining racing with combat elements that require both driving skill and strategic use of weaponry. The ultimate goal is to ascend the leaderboard and face the final boss known as the Adversary. The game also supported multiplayer via modem, serial, or LAN connections, offering competitive and cooperative modes.
