Fable: The Lost Chapters is an expanded re-release of the original Fable (2004), developed collaboratively by Big Blue Box Studios and Lionhead Studios, and published by Microsoft Game Studios in 2005 for Microsoft Windows, with later ports to Mac OS X. It enriches the base game with new content and technical refinements.
The game follows the player-created Hero through a morally reactive narrative set in the world of Albion, offering choices that affect the character’s appearance, skills, and reputation. The Lost Chapters enhances the original storyline with nine new areas, sixteen additional quests, added weapons, spells, armor, enemies, and improved dialogue and animations for minor characters.
Gameplay retains the open-ended action RPG experience, combining exploration, conversation-driven storytelling, and real-time combat. The expansion adds cosmetic gestures and items, and refines the user interface to suit PC controls. It also addresses bugs such as the “dig glitch” and introduces fixes, making the experience smoother than the original release.
Critically, the game received generally favorable reviews, achieving an 83 Metascore based on 54 critics and an 8.5 user score on Metacritic. Reviewers appreciated the atmospheric world, expanded content, and voice acting, while noting that some control quirks carried over from the console version. The additional quests and polish made it the preferred version on PC.
