Space Monster+ is an enhanced version of the original Space Monster game for the Philips Videopac. The core gameplay remains a fixed shooter where players control a triangular laser cannon shooting upward to defeat waves of invading alien robots. The game introduces improved graphics and sound effects through the Videopac+ system, enhancing immersion and gameplay experience.
Players face a formation of enemies protected by indestructible shields that move strategically, accompanied by the titular Space Monster who occasionally swoops down to increase the challenge. The three black shields remain a vital part of gameplay, serving as both cover and “lives” for the player, who must retreat under them to regenerate after being hit.
The match-based scoring system continues in this version, with the first side to win ten games taking the match. The enhancements provide a richer audiovisual experience while preserving the original game’s tactical and strategic depth.
