Blue Stinger is an action-adventure game with survival horror elements, released for the Dreamcast in 1999. Developed by Climax Graphics, the game recounts the story of rescue operative Eliot Ballade, stranded on the mysterious Dinosaur Island after a meteor impact unleashes mutated creatures and a bizarre energy dome. Players navigate both indoor and outdoor areas, battling monsters, solving puzzles, and exploring an elaborate environment.
Gameplay allows players to switch between two characters—Eliot, who is faster and employs dual weapons, and Dogs Bower, who wields heavier arms and is more resilient. The game unfolds across a variety of settings, such as laboratories, malls, and harbors, blending combat, exploration, and occasional survival elements. Several side missions grant extra items or weapons and deepen the experience.
The Japanese and Western versions diverge significantly in camera design: the original Japanese release used cinematic, variable-angle views, while the Western edition shifted to an over-the-shoulder perspective at Activision’s request. This change improved gameplay visibility for Western audiences but drew some criticism for its implementation.
