The Grinch for Dreamcast is a 3D platform action game loosely based on the classic Dr. Seuss story and the 2000 film adaptation. You play as the titular Grinch, who is intent on stopping Christmas in the town of Whoville by wreaking havoc. The game features open levels where the Grinch must complete various mischievous objectives, such as breaking presents, sabotaging decorations, and building quirky gadgets like rotten egg launchers and slime shooters.

The gameplay involves exploring four large environments, including Whoville, the forest, municipal dump, and a lake area, with a central hub at the Grinch’s lair atop Mount Crumpit. Players collect blueprint pieces scattered around to build or upgrade gadgets to aid in their pranks, and can switch between stealth and direct action approaches. The Grinch has abilities like jumping, sneaking, ground pounding, and a “smelly breath” attack, with puzzles and challenges integrated to utilize these moves.

The game’s visuals include colorful and atmospheric environments filled with Christmas decoration themes, while character animations are lively. The soundtrack mixes jazzy tunes with snippets from the film’s score, complementing the festive but mischievous mood. Narration, delivered in rhyme by a character inspired by the film, adds narrative charm.
