Genre: Combat Flight Simulator
Developer: Sega AM2
Publisher: Sega
Year: 1991
Platform: Game Gear

G-LOC: Air Battle is a handheld adaptation of Sega’s arcade flight combat series, bringing high-speed dogfighting action to the Game Gear. Players pilot an experimental fighter jet through a series of missions encompassing air, sea, and land targets. Progress is made by destroying assigned targets and completing stage objectives before the timer expires, which extends available play time and advances the campaign.

The game features nine varied missions, ranging from engaging enemy jets and ships to neutralizing fortified bases. Players can upgrade their aircraft using points earned during missions, acquiring enhancements like improved missiles, armor, and fuel tanks. There’s strategic value in deciding how to allocate points between firepower and survivability for challenging missions ahead.

Gameplay alternates between first-person and third-person viewpoints depending on the situation. The first-person cockpit view becomes advantageous when evading enemy missiles, while the third-person perspective provides better situational awareness during dogfights. This combination of perspectives brings new tactical depth to the handheld format, especially considering hardware limitations of the era.

G-LOC supports both single-player and two-player head-to-head modes via the Game Gear link cable, enabling competitive aerial combat. The inclusion of multiplayer enhances replay value, giving fans a way to test their skills against real opponents in a fast-paced environment.
