Olympic Gold: Barcelona ’92 is an official video game adaptation of the 1992 Summer Olympics, developed by Tiertex Design Studios and published by U.S. Gold for the Sega Game Gear. The game features seven Olympic events: 100-meter sprint, hammer throw, archery, 110-meter hurdles, pole vault, springboard diving, and 200-meter freestyle swimming. Players can compete in individual events or attempt to win medals across all disciplines in a full Olympic competition.

The gameplay mechanics vary by event. The sprint and hurdles events require rapid button presses to achieve speed, with the hurdles event incorporating timing for jumps. The swimming event involves a sequence of timed button presses to simulate swimming strokes. In the hammer throw, players must build up power through button mashing and release the hammer at the correct angle. The pole vault combines button mashing with precise timing to set the bar height and execute the jump. Archery and diving events focus on aiming and timing to achieve accuracy and style.

Graphics are presented in a top-down view with digitized player sprites. The court layouts and player animations are designed to capture the essence of the arcade version, though adapted for the Game Gear’s hardware limitations. The game features a dynamic announcer who provides commentary during gameplay, adding to the energetic atmosphere.
