Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood is the third major installment in the Assassin’s Creed series and a direct sequel to Assassin’s Creed II. The game continues the story of Ezio Auditore da Firenze as he leads the Assassin Brotherhood in Rome against the powerful Templar Order. The historical narrative once again intertwines with a modern-day storyline involving Desmond Miles, who uses the Animus device to relive Ezio’s memories in order to uncover clues vital to the Assassins’ modern-day fight.
Set primarily in a detailed open-world recreation of Renaissance-era Rome, the game allows players to explore districts such as the Vatican, Trastevere, and the Colosseum. In addition to parkour traversal and stealth-based assassinations, Brotherhood introduces the ability to recruit and train new Assassins. These recruits can be sent on missions across Europe or summoned to assist in combat and stealth operations, adding a strategic layer to gameplay.
The PlayStation 3 version of the game includes exclusive downloadable content at launch, titled “Copernicus Conspiracy,” which features missions based on the historical figure Nicolaus Copernicus. This content was not initially available on other platforms. The game also marks the introduction of a multiplayer component to the series, with various competitive modes where players take on the roles of Templar agents in training.
Brotherhood was generally well received by critics, with praise directed toward its world design, improvements to the core mechanics introduced in Assassin’s Creed II, and the expanded gameplay systems. According to Metacritic, the PlayStation 3 version holds a high average review score, reflecting strong critical acclaim upon release.
