Batman: Arkham Origins is an action-adventure game developed by WB Games Montréal and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Released in 2013, it serves as a prequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, exploring the early years of Bruce Wayne’s crime-fighting career. The story takes place on Christmas Eve, when the crime lord Black Mask places a bounty on Batman’s head, attracting eight of the world’s deadliest assassins to Gotham City.

Gameplay follows the established mechanics of the Arkham series, blending free-flow combat, stealth, and detective-based investigation. Players can explore a larger, open-world version of Gotham divided into North and South regions, connected by the Gotham Bridge. Batman’s arsenal of gadgets, including the Batclaw and Batarang, returns with new additions such as the Remote Claw, which allows for creative takedowns and traversal options.

The PlayStation 3 version maintains the same gameplay and story content as other console releases. It also includes the series’ first multiplayer mode, allowing players to participate in asymmetrical matches involving Batman, Robin, and criminal factions led by the Joker and Bane.

Upon release, Batman: Arkham Origins received generally positive reviews. Critics praised the story, voice acting, and boss battles, while some noted technical issues and a lack of innovation compared to its predecessors. Despite this, the game was commercially successful and remains a notable prequel within the Arkham franchise.
