Disney Infinity 2.0 is an action-adventure sandbox game developed by Avalanche Software and published by Disney Interactive Studios. Released in 2014, it is the sequel to the original Disney Infinity and introduces characters and worlds from Marvel Comics into the franchise. Like its predecessor, the game uses physical collectible figures that interact with the game via a USB-connected base.
The PlayStation 3 version includes two main gameplay modes: Play Set and Toy Box. Play Sets offer structured, story-driven experiences based on franchises such as Marvel’s The Avengers, Spider-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Each Play Set supports co-op gameplay and features unique environments and missions tailored to the featured characters. Toy Box mode provides a sandbox environment for creating custom worlds, games, and scenarios using characters, terrain pieces, and interactive objects.
The PS3 edition supports local split-screen and online multiplayer, as well as trophy achievements. It includes performance optimizations for the platform and a streamlined interface compatible with the DualShock 3 controller. All figures and Power Discs from the first game are compatible with Toy Box mode in 2.0.
Disney Infinity 2.0 received mixed to favorable reviews. Critics praised the expanded character roster, especially the inclusion of Marvel heroes, but noted that some Play Sets lacked gameplay depth. The Toy Box mode was again highlighted as a strong creative tool. According to Metacritic, the PlayStation 3 version holds average to favorable scores.
