Genre: Action Role-Playing
Developer: Triumph Studios
Publisher: Codemasters
Year: 2008
Platform: PlayStation 3

Overlord: Raising Hell is an expanded version of the original Overlord game, combining the base title with its downloadable content into a single release. Developed by Triumph Studios and published by Codemasters, the PlayStation 3 version launched in 2008, roughly a year after its initial debut on other platforms. This version includes the full Overlord game along with the “Raising Hell” expansion, which adds new Abyss levels, quests, and items.

Players control the titular Overlord, a resurrected dark lord who commands hordes of goblin-like minions to conquer lands, solve puzzles, and eliminate enemies. The gameplay blends third-person action with real-time strategy mechanics, as players use four distinct minion types—each with specialized abilities—to manipulate the environment and fight adversaries.

The “Raising Hell” content introduces new realms known as the Abyss, one for each of the main game’s regions. These levels offer tougher enemies and environmental puzzles, expanding the game’s length and difficulty. Additionally, the PS3 version features optional Sixaxis motion controls for commanding minions, though this function was generally seen as non-essential.

While the PlayStation 3 version was praised for its content-rich package, it received mixed feedback on performance, with occasional frame rate dips and longer loading times compared to the Xbox 360 and PC versions. Nevertheless, the inclusion of all expansion material made it the most complete edition available on consoles at the time of release.
