Genre: Rail shooter
Developer: Nex Entertainment
Publisher: Namco Bandai Games
Year: 2007
Platform: PlayStation 3

Time Crisis 4 is a rail shooter developed by Nex Entertainment and released for the PlayStation 3 in 2007. It is part of the long-running Time Crisis series, known for its arcade-style light gun gameplay. The PlayStation 3 version was the first in the series to be released for a home console with a new controller—the GunCon 3—which allowed for greater aiming precision and movement tracking.

The game is split into two main components: the traditional arcade mode and a new story-driven FPS-style mode exclusive to the PlayStation 3. The arcade mode follows the familiar on-rails shooting formula where players use cover and timing to survive waves of enemies. It supports single-player or two-player cooperative play.

The console-exclusive Complete Mission mode is a significant departure from the arcade roots. This mode introduces free movement within 3D environments and includes mission-based gameplay with a narrative focusing on counter-terrorism operatives Giorgio Bruno and Evan Bernard. Players can switch between weapons in real time and explore different areas of each level.

The game’s visual presentation on PlayStation 3 includes higher-resolution textures and improved models compared to its arcade counterpart. It supports 720p resolution and benefits from the added horsepower of the console, though the graphics were considered modest compared to other titles on the system at the time. The GunCon 3 peripheral was required for full functionality in the arcade mode but not necessary for the FPS campaign.
