Turok is a reboot of the classic Turok franchise, developed by Propaganda Games and published under Disney’s Touchstone label. The game takes place in a futuristic setting where Joseph Turok, a former Black Ops commando turned member of an elite military group known as Whiskey Company, is deployed to a hostile planet to capture a war criminal. The planet is populated by both enemy soldiers and aggressive dinosaurs, creating a unique blend of military shooter and survival elements.
The gameplay emphasizes stealth and tactical combat alongside traditional run-and-gun mechanics. Players can choose between firearms, a bow for silent takedowns, and a combat knife for close encounters. Dinosaur AI operates independently, sometimes attacking both the player and enemy NPCs, which adds a dynamic layer to battles.
The PlayStation 3 version features full 720p resolution, support for multiplayer via PlayStation Network, and includes Sixaxis motion controls for certain in-game interactions. Online multiplayer supports up to 16 players across various game modes, including standard deathmatch and team-based objectives.
Despite its connection to a legacy franchise, Turok on PlayStation 3 received mixed reviews, with praise directed at the game’s visuals and atmosphere but criticism for uneven pacing and checkpoint placement. It marked the first Turok title on a seventh-generation console and the first in the series to focus heavily on squad-based and military-style shooting rather than the more fantastical tone of earlier entries.
