Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is an action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in May 2016, it is the fourth main installment in the Uncharted series. The game follows Nathan Drake, a retired treasure hunter, who is drawn back into adventure when his long-lost brother, Samuel, reappears with information about a fabled pirate treasure. Nathan and his longtime partner Victor Sullivan travel across the globe, solving puzzles and fighting enemies to uncover the secrets of Henry Avery’s lost fortune.
The gameplay combines third-person shooting, platforming, and puzzle-solving. Players explore diverse environments, ranging from dense jungles to snow-covered mountains, using a variety of weapons, tools, and vehicles. The game also features a multiplayer mode supporting up to ten players in competitive and cooperative scenarios.
Development began shortly after the release of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in 2011. Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley took over as creative directors in 2014, aiming to deliver a more personal story and a realistic tone, making Uncharted 4 the intended conclusion to Nathan Drake’s saga. The game places a strong emphasis on character development, environmental storytelling, and cinematic presentation.
Uncharted 4 received critical acclaim upon release, praised for its narrative, gameplay, visuals, and multiplayer content. It won multiple Game of the Year awards and sold over 18 million copies, making it the best-selling title in the Uncharted series and one of the top-selling PlayStation 4 games.
